Hon. Dominic Gyasi Provides Livelihood Support and Assistive Devices to Persons with Disabilities

The Municipal Chief Executive for Sefwi Wiawso, Hon. Dominic Gyasi, has presented livelihood equipment, financial assistance and assistive devices to persons with disabilities within the Municipality.

The support is intended to improve beneficiaries’ livelihoods, mobility and access to income-generating opportunities.

Items presented included fufu-pounding machines, deep freezers, other freezers, industrial sewing machines, wheelchairs and additional assistive devices. Some beneficiaries also received financial support towards their healthcare needs.

Speaking during the presentation, Hon. Dominic Gyasi encouraged beneficiaries to use the equipment and financial assistance for their intended purposes.

He explained that supporting persons with disabilities to establish and maintain income-generating activities would help improve their living conditions and reduce dependence on others.

The MCE also announced that the allocation for persons with disabilities under the District Assemblies Common Fund had increased from 3% to 5%.

He said the increased allocation would strengthen support for the social and economic needs of persons with disabilities.

Hon. Dominic Gyasi further disclosed plans by the Municipal Assembly to establish a specialised school for persons with disabilities.

The proposed school would provide suitable educational, vocational and skills-development opportunities. Further information on the project will be communicated as planning progresses.

The MCE called on stakeholders and development partners to support programmes that improve the welfare and economic independence of persons with disabilities.

Speaking on behalf of GFD, Mr. Isaac Nkuah expressed appreciation to the Municipal Assembly and Hon. Dominic Gyasi. He assured the Assembly that the beneficiaries would put the equipment, financial assistance and assistive devices to good use.
