1,500 Bags of Fertiliser Distributed to 625 Farmers in Sefwi Wiawso

The Sefwi Wiawso Municipality has distributed 1,500 bags of NPK and urea fertiliser to 30 farmer-based organisations under the government’s Feed Ghana Programme.

The distribution, held at the Department of Agriculture on 6 August 2026, reached 625 small-scale farmers across the Municipality. The support is intended to increase the production of staple crops, particularly rice, maize and vegetables.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Dominic Gyasi, explained that the intervention was intended to reduce the cost of fertiliser and help small-scale farmers remain productive.

He encouraged farmers to form strong cooperatives, noting that organised farmer groups make it easier to deliver government support, agricultural information and extension services.

The MCE also urged beneficiaries to use the fertiliser for its intended purpose so that Sefwi Wiawso can continue contributing to food production within the Western North Region and Ghana.

The Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Daniel K. A. Nyagorme, thanked the MCE for supporting agricultural development and acknowledged the continuing contribution of farmers to food availability within the Municipality.

He assured the MCE and beneficiaries that officers from the Department of Agriculture would visit the farms to monitor the use of the fertiliser and provide extension services.

Farmers will also receive guidance on the 4R principles of fertiliser application: using the right source, at the right rate, at the right time and in the right place. These principles help farmers use fertiliser efficiently and improve crop yields.

The beneficiaries welcomed the intervention and expressed appreciation for the support. They also requested an expansion of the programme, explaining that the allocation was insufficient to cover all registered farmer groups and the wider farming population within the Municipality.
