Gaming Commission Opens New Office in Sefwi Wiawso

The Municipal Chief Executive for Sefwi Wiawso, Hon. Dominic Gyasi, together with the Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso Constituency, Hon. Kofi Benteh Afful, officially commissioned a new office of the Gaming Commission of Ghana at Sefwi Mpomam. The commissioning was undertaken on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana and forms part of efforts to strengthen the Commission’s regulatory presence and public education activities. In his address, Hon. Dominic Gyasi explained that gaming is a regulated activity in Ghana. However, operators and participants must conduct gaming activities in accordance with the country’s laws, licensing requirements and regulatory standards.

He emphasised that the manner in which gaming is conducted can make it unlawful or socially unacceptable. Operators must therefore act responsibly and comply with the rules established by the Gaming Commission of Ghana.

Protecting Children and Young People. The MCE also reminded operators and members of the public that persons below 18 years are prohibited from participating in gaming activities. Protecting children and young people from underage gaming requires cooperation among regulators, operators, parents, schools and the wider community.

Gaming operators must take appropriate steps to verify the age of participants and prevent children from accessing gaming services or premises.

The new office provides an opportunity to increase public awareness, promote responsible gaming and improve regulatory compliance within the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality. It will also bring the Commission’s services closer to gaming operators and members of the public who require information, guidance or support concerning licensed gaming activities. Members of the public are encouraged to engage only with properly licensed operators and to report activities that appear to violate gaming laws or put children and vulnerable people at risk. Hon. Dominic Gyasi and Hon. Kofi Benteh Afful encouraged gaming operators, community leaders and residents to support responsible practices within the municipality. The establishment of the office should contribute to better public education, improved compliance and stronger protection for the people of Sefwi Wiawso.

Responsible gaming is a shared responsibility. All operators and participants must act within the law and consider the wellbeing of the wider community.
