Beware of Fake Accounts Offering Jobs in the MP’s Name

The Office of Hon. Kofi Benteh Afful, Member of Parliament for the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency, has received reports that fraudsters are creating fake social media accounts in the MP’s name and using them to deceive members of the public.

These fraudsters contact people through Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and other platforms with false promises of employment, recruitment assistance and access to opportunities. They then demand money before the supposed employment can be secured.

The Office wishes to state clearly that these accounts and employment offers are fraudulent.

Hon. Kofi Benteh Afful and members of his office will never demand money through social media, WhatsApp or a personal Mobile Money account as a condition for securing employment or receiving assistance.

Anyone requesting a registration fee, processing fee, protocol fee, facilitation fee, clearance fee or placement fee in the MP’s name is attempting to defraud the public.

Identifying the Official Facebook Profile

The official Facebook profile of the Member of Parliament is named Kofi Benteh Afful and carries a blue Facebook verification badge directly beside the profile name.

Constituents should open the Facebook profile and confirm that the blue badge appears beside the name before trusting information from the account.

A blue tick placed inside a profile picture, cover photograph, post or screenshot is not proof that an account is verified. Fraudsters can copy the MP’s name, photographs, biography, posts and other public information.

Important announcements should also be confirmed through the official constituency website at www.kofibenteh.com.

Even if a message appears to come from a familiar account, any request to pay money for employment in the MP’s name should be treated as fraudulent.

How Constituents Can Protect Themselves

Members of the public are advised to:

1. Never send money to anyone promising employment through the MP’s office.

2. Check for the blue verification badge beside Kofi Benteh Afful on Facebook.

3. Confirm employment announcements and public opportunities through the official website.

4. Never disclose a Mobile Money PIN, OTP, Ghana Card information, banking details or other sensitive personal information.

5. Avoid clicking suspicious links sent through Messenger, WhatsApp or text messages.

6. Report suspicious profiles, messages, telephone numbers and payment requests immediately.

All legitimate employment announcements and public opportunities connected to the MP’s office will be communicated through the official website and authorised communication channels.

What Victims Should Do

Anyone who has already transferred money or provided personal information to a suspicious account should immediately:

1. Contact the relevant Mobile Money provider or bank and report the transaction.

2. Preserve screenshots of the account, messages, telephone numbers, payment instructions and transaction details.

3. Report the account to Facebook for impersonation and fraud.

4. Report the incident to the Ghana Police Service and the Cyber Security Authority.

5. Inform the MP’s office through the contact information published on the official website.

Cybercrime incidents can be reported to the Cyber Security Authority by calling or sending an SMS to 292, through WhatsApp on 050 160 3111, by email at report@csa.gov.gh, or through the online incident-reporting form.

The public is encouraged to share this warning with family members, friends and community groups. Constituents should remain vigilant and verify every employment offer before providing personal information or making any payment.
